DIITET - Research Areas DIITET includes 21 ins tutes, some organized in local sec ons. DIITET ins tutes are distributed over almost the en re country, and involve about 1,500 staff members, of which about 900 researchers and technologists engaged, with the support of technical and administra ve staff, in research and development ac vi es in key sectors in the na onal economy, such as: • Energy: genera on and micro-genera on of clean and efficient energy, from tradi onal sources and non (including renewable sources: solar, wind, marine, biomass); exploita on and efficient use of renewable energy sources including the energy storage systems; smart grids. Controlled thermonuclear fusion. • Transport: intelligent mul modal transport; sustainable mobility; engines for road vehicles and marine propulsion; electric and hybrid motors; mari me technologies for the shipping and the boa ng industry; unconven onal marine vehicles; marine robo cs. • Aero-space: technologies and tools to measure and observe the Earth system; methods for processing remotely sensed data; environmental technologies; space infrastructure; telecommunica ons. • ICT: Digital Agenda; Internet of the future; knowledge discovery and management; pervasive embedded systems; bioinforma cs; photonics; e-energy, e-health and e-mobility; modeling and analysis of complex systems. • New materials: mul -func onal or nano-mesa structured materials for the industrial needs; advanced materials for energy, transport and construc on. • Sensors: systems for monitoring, control and security of complex systems; high performance monitoring systems; actuators and transducers for applica ons in mechanical engineering, automa on, biomedical diagnos cs, and manufacturing systems. • Advanced manufacturing systems: factory of the future; automa on technologies and systems; methodologies, tools and technologies for manufacturing • Construc on: technologies for the realiza on of safe and high-performance buildings; energy and environmental sustainability; pollu on control in building.
